AQUANATURE
COPPER (Cu) TEST KIT INSTRUCTIONS

Why Do Copper Tests?
Fish with parasite infestations in both fresh and saltwater are frequently treated with copper. The aquarium’s copper concentration needs to be kept at the therapeutic level for a few weeks in order to be successful. Monitoring the level requires frequent testing. In addition to aquariums or ponds with plants, copper should not be utilized in aquariums with invertebrates, such as corals, shrimp, crayfish, and snails. Certain fish species are also extremely susceptible to copper treatments. Copper can also find its way into aquariums through tap water, where it may have leached from pipes.
Testing Tips
This test kit measures the amount of total copper (free and chelated) in milligrams per liter (mg/L) between 0 and 4.0 parts per million (ppm), which is comparable to ppm (ppm). Chelated copper compounds have a high degree of stability and have a lengthy half-life in solution. Free copper levels need to be checked every day because they will drop quickly.
Directions
Remove safety cap:
1. Fill a clean test vials with 10 ml of water to be tested (to the line on the vials).
2. Shake well Cu reagent before use. Add 7 drops of Reagent “SHAKE WELL” (holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops.)
3. Cap the test vials and shake several times to mix solution.
4. Read the test results after 5 minutes observe the color change of the water sample in the vials horizontally, compare with the Cu color chart, and read the Cu value of the corresponding water sample.

Recommended Cu Levels
In general copper should NOT be measurable in aquariums and ponds. Any measured copper content in freshwater and marine water could be deadly!
Decreasing Copper Levels in Aquariums

Make a partial water change first, then add AQUANATURE PREMIUM ACTIVATED CARBON to the filter to minimize, eliminates any remaining copper residue in the aquarium. Before adding water to your aquarium.
Lowering Copper Levels in Ponds

If your pond’s copper levels are excessively high, try doing a few partial water changes first. Then, add activated carbon to your filter to get rid of any remaining copper.
