Alternanthera reineckii ‘Mini’ is a compact, slow-growing stem plant favored for its rich red to violet hues and suitability in aquascaping. Its slow growth rate makes it easier to maintain over time, although it requires consistent care to achieve optimal color and form. Due to its low stature and dense, bushy appearance when trimmed regularly, it is best positioned in the foreground or midground of aquariums, depending on tank size. High lighting and CO₂ injection are essential to enhance its coloration and keep the growth compact. Without sufficient light or CO₂, the plant may grow leggy and lose vibrancy. Nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilization, especially with iron, help maintain healthy growth. The plant can be grown either emersed or submersed, with submersed forms producing more intense coloration. Reaching up to 8 inches (20 cm) in height, it responds well to trimming, which also promotes horizontal spread. Propagation is simple via stem cuttings, which can be replanted to expand the colony. When properly maintained, reineckii ‘Mini’ becomes a striking focal point in nature-style and Dutch aquascapes alike.
