Description

Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Gecko’ is a captivating cultivar of Cryptocoryne wendtii, recognized for its distinctive variegated leaves that feature a unique mix of green and yellowish hues. Native to Sri Lanka, this cultivar’s leaves are broad and lance-shaped, often displaying irregular patterns of light yellow and green, which can sometimes take on a more golden or orange tint when exposed to higher light conditions. It grows as a rosette from a rhizome, with the leaves typically reaching a height of 10–15 cm (4–6 inches), making it an ideal candidate for midground or foreground placements in aquascapes. The growth rate of Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Gecko’ is moderate to slow, with the plant generally taking time to establish itself in new environments but growing steadily once it acclimates.Like other species in the Cryptocoryne genus, C. wendtii ‘Gecko’ may experience crypt melt when it undergoes changes in its environment, but it usually rebounds once it acclimates to the new setup.Due to its unique coloration and moderate size, Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Gecko’ is an excellent choice for midground or foreground positions in nature aquascapes, biotope setups, and Dutch-style aquariums. Its striking color and texture make it a beautiful contrast plant when paired with other greens or red-toned species, providing both visual interest and a natural aesthetic to aquascapes.
